Physical Therapy for Wrist and Hand Pain
Treatment for Wrist and Hand Pain
“I fell and injured my wrist. I am a stay-at-home mom with a young infant. It was too difficult for me to make an appointment at a clinic and bring the baby. I am so glad I found out about Virtual Physical Therapy for my wrist and hand pain! My clinician was able to figure out what was wrong with my wrist and gave me exercises for my wrist pain. I am now pain-free!” Michelle S. (Orlando, FL)
Proper physical therapy for wrist and hand pain must start with a precise diagnosis.
Virtual Physical Therapist’s cornerstone is our advanced evaluation. Rather than relying on a general diagnosis, every patient receives a Mechanical Assessment to uncover the root cause of symptoms. All our virtual physical therapists are Certified in Mechanical Diagnosis to assure that every patient receives the highest level of care.
Causes of Wrist & Hand Pain:
1. Ligament tear
2. Fracture
3. Joint derangement – cartilage
4. Carpel Tunnel
5. Referred from the spine
6. Inflammatory
7. Joint dysfunction – tight tissue
8. Other: non-mechanical
What to Expect on your Initial Virtual Physical Therapy for Wrist and Hand Pain.
Over 40% of isolated extremity symptoms are referred from the spine. Every Virtual Physical Therapistevaluation starts with ruling out the spine to assure that your symptoms are not incorrectly blamed on the location where symptoms are felt. Your clinician will start by reviewing your past medical history and then ask questions about your symptoms, including what aggravates and relieves. A mechanical assessment will be performed and this includes assessing your baseline range of motion and quality of movement along with any pain and limitations. Spinal movements will be assessed to see if they have any effect on your baseline symptoms. Next, your clinician will perform repeated movements of the affected joint and analyze any effect that these moments have on your baseline symptoms. This thorough assessment will reveal any mechanical problems in your wrist and hand and the surrounding soft tissue.
After your clinician completes this in-depth evaluation, they will educate you on how you can treat yourself and provide you with an individualized exercise program.
