“I have had knee pain for the past four months after twisting my knee at a worksite. My MRI looked pretty bad with cartilage tears and arthritis. I was an athlete in my younger years and tore my knees up playing football. The orthopedist drained my knee and told me that I would need a scope to clean everything out. It felt better after he drained it, but I still had a lot of pain walking and moving it, which hindered my ability to inspect worksites. The doctor gave me a prescription for therapy, and my insurance offered VPT. Because I travel to different states for work, I thought virtual would be a good option to get my knee stronger for surgery. I was able to connect with my therapist, Aideen from my hotel room just using the app on my phone. The therapist asked me to move my knee and squat, but everything was painfull. She explained why I could not fully straighten my knee and gave me an exercise to do. I could not believe how much better I felt the next day! She checked in with me by e-mail and when I had a follow- up visit the next week I was able to squat. It still hurt a bit, but I was able to move so much better and was more confident walking around the worksites. I am now able to do everything again and would definitely recommend VPT because of the convenience!”. Joe R.
“A mechanical assessment revealed that Joe had pain during movement and loss of knee extension as well as some loss of flexion. He was unable to squat on his left knee passed 30 degrees because of severe pain. He also had difficulty navigating stairs, especially descending and was unable to kneel. Through repeated testing, we were able to recognize that Joe had a directional preference to extension. This movement was painful, but the more he did it, the more motion he regained, and his pain decreased. We then progressed to applying overpressure into extension. After only two visits over seven days, he was able to fully squat and navigate stairs with minimal pain. He continued his exercises independently and two weeks later reported feeling 95%. ” Aideen Turner, MPT, Cert. MDT
